Rachel and Zelda are sitting in Rachel’s room playing with their toys. They were having the time of their life playing pretend and being just the best of friends. Their babysitter was in the living room not paying attention to the kids per usual. The babysitter is over every weekend since the sister’s parents are always out on the weekends giving them plenty of time to play which is their favorite thing to do. The sisters had an amazing relationship and were almost inseparable. They would also enjoy playing outside and running around the neighborhood. The neighbors would always yell and wave hello as the girls ran by. The girls were the best of friends and even the neighborhood knew about it. The girls would occasionally go out on different adventures around their town. They never caused any real trouble and really just had innocent fun around their neighborhood. Although these girls went on many adventures together there will always be one adventure that they always remembered.
It was a cold and snowy day in Maine as Rachel and Zelda headed towards the river to play in the fresh fallen snow. Rachel and Zelda started playing and running around the river and the forest around it. Rachel being the curious and mischievous one asked her sister to dive deeper into the woods. “Come on Zelda I want to explore in the forest and maybe find something cool.” “I don’t have a great feeling about it Rachel. What if we get lost?” Said Zelda in a concerned tone. “We’ll be fine Zelda we always do these types of adventures and we always have the most fun on explorations” explained Rachel. They both agreed and ventured into the woods.
They must have been out there for at least 2-3 hours scavenging and trekking through the woods. After awhile they found what looked like a beaver dam made out of branches and leaves. The girls then climbed over the dam and were amazed at what they saw. Over the dam was a mini Cemetery, filled with homemade gravestones and plaques. The girls started exploring and looking over the gravestones to see whose they were. They both noticed that almost all of the gravestones were of animals, pets to be exact. “Why is there a pet cemetary in the middle of the woods” asked Rachel. “I don’t know but this is kind of freaking me out” says Zelda with a concerned and scared look.
They then turn around and find a cat staring at them. The cat doesn’t do much at first except meow and lick itself. Once the girls inched closer towards it the cat springs onto a gravestone and begins meowing in a frightening way causing the girls to get startled and start their way back up the dam. The cat then sprints up back on top of the dam trapping the girls. Zelda and Rachel both scream and try to find another way out. At that moment the cat’s eyes start to glow a beady red and the girls knew something was not right. Rachel runs up back towards the dam with Zelda following behind. The cat then attacks Zelda by scratching her right on the back. Zelda doesn’t notice at first as she has too much adrenaline running through her body to notice. They both make it back out of the dam and start to head home.
The next few days after the event were very stressful. Zelda had caught a sickness that has made her bedridden for a couple days leaving Rachel to be by herself and to think about what happened a couple days ago. Rachel realized that Zelda had never been this sick before the event at the cemetery. Rachel also was picturing the devilish red eyes the cat had before they left. Rachel then had an idea, she would go and check on Zelda to see if she has any marks or scratches on her from the other day. Their parents had a doctor over the house and diagnosed spinal meningitis which if severe enough can leave Zelda paralyzed. Rachel looked Zelda over and lifted the back of her shirt up to find three red claw marks straight down Zelda’s back. Rachel was aghast and knew that the cemetery they went to was not an ordinary cemetery.
The next couple weeks were very tough for Rachel. She had to care for her very sick sister who is now very irritable and stubborn. The sisters grew farther and farther apart day by day as Zelda became sicker and sicker. On a brisk Sunday evening Rachel was getting Zelda a drink when she heard a massive thud and roll down the stairs. Rachel jumped and instantly ran towards the stairs to find Zelda on the floor lifeless and limp. Rachel started screaming and crying for help but no one came as no one else was home. Rachel did see something move at the top of the stairs though and went up to investigate. The only thing she saw was a hairball at the top of the stairs. Rachel began piecing everything together and called the police and ambulance. Once Zelda was rushed to the hospital Rachel looked throughout the house for any clues as to what caused Zelda’s fall. All of a sudden a cat emerges from one of the bedrooms and starts to viciously meow at Rachel. Rachel looks behind and sees its bright red eyes and starts for the stairs. The cat quickly follows and instantly catches up to Rachel but is hit with a wooden board down the stairs. Rachel takes the board looking for the cat but the cat scurries off outside away from the house. Rachel sits on the couch and starts to bawl knowing her sister will never be the same again and maybe won’t even see her again. They will never have those fun adventures that they would go on everyday and would never have that same relationship ever again. Maybe taking that trip into woods wasn’t a good idea after all.
